An explosive batting lineup helped the LG Twins sweep the Doosan Bears to extend their winning streak to four games.
The LG Twins won 16-7 at home against Doosan in the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League on Monday at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, South Korea.
With the four-game winning streak, LG moved into second place with 50 wins, two ties and 42 losses, while Doosan remained in fourth place with 49 wins, two ties and 45 losses.
LG starter Chan-kyu Lim earned his sixth win of the season, allowing five runs on seven hits (two home runs) with five strikeouts and one walk in six innings. At the plate, Austin Dean led the way, going 4-for-5 with two home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored.
Doosan starter Keisho Shirakawa allowed five runs on four hits (one homer) and four walks with one strikeout in three innings to remain winless, while Kyo-Hoon Lee suffered his first loss of the season after allowing two runs on four hits and one walk with one strikeout in 2.1 innings.
LG struck first. In the bottom of the first inning, LG had runners on first and third after Hong Chang-ki and Austin singled and Moon Bo-kyung drew a walk. With one out, Kim Hyun-soo hit a grounder to the second baseman to bring home Hong Chang-ki.
Doosan fired back with a cannon. Doosan wasn’t satisfied with the tie in the top of the third inning, as leadoff hitter Kim Ki-yeon hit a tying solo home run over the left field fence. Doosan responded in the bottom of the inning when Cho Sung-yeon singled to right-center and stole second, and Kang Seung-ho followed with an RBI double. With the bases loaded, Kim Jae-hwan blasted a two-run shot over the left field fence to make it 4-1.
Elge answered with a cannon of his own. Elsie got one run back in the bottom of the third inning when Austin hit a solo home run over the right field wall on a seven-pitch at-bat.
Doosan kept the momentum going. In the top of the fourth inning, Doosan put runners on first and third with one out when Jeon Min-jae was hit by a pitch and Kim Ki-yeon singled to right, and Cho Su-yeon hit a grounder to shortstop to bring home Jeon to make it 5-2.
LG’s bats stayed focused. In the bottom of the fourth inning, LG scored a run on an infield single by Oh Ji-hwan and a bases-loaded walk to Park Dong-won and Park Hae-min. In the ensuing bases-loaded opportunity, Hong Chang-ki hit an RBI double to 안전놀이터 tie the game at 5-5. With runners on first and third, Moon Sung-joo singled and Shin Min-jae scored from third base to give LG a 6-5 lead.
LG began to pull away with the help of its fired-up bats. In the bottom of the sixth, Shin Min-jae drew a walk and stole second base, and Hong Chang-ki singled to right field to put runners on first and third. With runners on first and third, Kim Bum-seok drew a walk and Austin hit a three-run home run to the back of the left-field wall to make it a four-run game, 9-5.
LG continued to bombard Doosan’s mound in the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh, LG scored a run on an RBI single by Park Dong-won with the bases loaded after a leadoff double by Oh Hwan. Park Hae-min followed with a single and Shin Min-jae drew a walk to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Hong Chang-ki stepped up to the plate and scored on a wild pitch to make it 11-5.
In the next at-bat, Koo Bon-hyuk hit a grounder to shortstop, allowing Park Hae-min to score from third base. With runners on first and third, LG took advantage of Austin’s RBI double and Moon Bo-kyung’s RBI triple to make it 15-5.
In the eighth inning, LG added one more run on an infield single by Hong Chang-ki after a triple by Shin Min-jae to extend the lead to 16-5.
Doosan got one run back in the top of the ninth when leadoff hitter Park Jun-young hit a solo home run over the left field fence, and Ramos followed with a double to right-center field and stole third base on a wild pitch by Jin Woo-young. Doosan scored one more run on a sacrifice fly by Jeon Min-jae with the bases loaded, but there would be no more comeback as LG held on for the 16-7 victory.
