No medal in Tokyo 2021 Aiming for 2 or more medals in Paris

Park Hye-jeong’s smile after ‘post Jang Mi-ran’
Weightlifting is a ‘traditional sport’ that was adopted as an official event at the first Summer Olympics in 1896, and has been established in its current form since the 6th Antwerp Games in 1920.
It is a sport that cannot be left out in Korean sports history.
South Korea’s first ever Olympic medal came in weightlifting.
At the 1948 London Olympics, the late Kim Seong-jip, an advisor to the Korean Sports Council, won a bronze medal in the middleweight (75 kg) class, setting a shining milestone in Korean sports history.
Including advisor Kim Seong-jip, Korean weightlifting has won a total of 16 medals (3 gold, 6 silver, and 7 bronze) in Olympic history.
Of these, four medals (two silver and two bronze) were awarded to Korea after medalists from other countries were caught doping after the fact.
Since 2016, world weightlifting has been plagued by a ‘drug scandal’.
A number of Olympic medalists were stripped of their medals for ‘post-doping’, and the International Weightlifting Federation reformed its weight class system in 2018 in an attempt to erase ‘traces of drugs’.
However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is still warning weightlifting to be ‘expelled from the official sport’.
The number of weight classes in the official Olympic Games was reduced from 15 at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games to 14 at the 2021 Tokyo Games, and further reduced to 10 at the 2024 Paris Games.
The official weightlifting events at the Paris Olympics include five weight classes for men (61 kg, 73 kg, 89 kg, 102 kg, and over 102 kg) and five weight classes for women (49 kg, 59 kg, 71 kg, 81 kg, and over 81 kg).
The IOC reduced the final entry number to 120, 12 per weight class, and allowed only six wrestlers, three men and three women per country, to compete, thus blocking China’s dominance, one of the main culprits of the ‘doping scandal’.
During the ‘era of drugs’, Korean weightlifting went through a ‘dark age’.
In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Jang Mi-ran and Sa Jae-hyeok won gold medals at the same time, opening the golden age of Korean weightlifting, but in the 2012 London Olympics, they failed to win a single medal ‘at the time of the competition’.
With a number of London Olympic medalists being caught posthumously for doping, Kim Min-jae was promoted to second place, while Jang Mi-ran and Jeon Sang-gyun were promoted to third place.
In Rio de Janeiro in 2016, Jinhee Yoon won a bronze medal, and in Tokyo in 2021, she was limited to ‘no medal’.
In Paris 2024, Korean weightlifting aims for at least two medals.
Korea’s Park Hye-jeong (21, Goyang City Hall) in the women’s 81kg class, Kim Su-hyeon (29, Busan Metropolitan City Sports Council) in the 81kg class, Park Joo-hyo (27, Goyang City Hall) in the men’s 73kg class, Yoo Dong-ju (30, Jinan County Office) in the 89kg class, and Jang Yeon-hak (27, Asan City Hall) in the 102kg class earned tickets to the Paris Olympics.
Park Hye-jeong, women’s 81kg class, is a ‘strong silver medal candidate.’
In this weight class, the strongest fighter, Li Wenyuan (China), is holding her own, but other than Li Wenyuan, there is no fighter who can threaten Park Hye-jeong.
Park Hye-jeong’s ‘rival’ and close senior Son Young-hee (Jeju Provincial Office) tied for third place in the Paris Olympic rankings, but was tied to the ‘one person per country per weight class’ rule, so Park Hye-jeong’s chances of winning a medal have increased. 안전놀이터
The other four are also classified as ‘medal candidates’.
Head coach Jeon Yong-seong of the national team said, “All five of our athletes participating in the Paris Olympics have the skills to aim for a medal,” and added, “If we don’t make any mistakes on the day of the game, we will fight for a medal.”
Each of them has their own special reason for wanting to win a medal at the Paris Olympics.
Kim Soo-hyun failed to lift 106 kg in the snatch at the Tokyo Olympics, but failed to lift 138 kg in his first attempt at the clean and jerk and 140 kg in his second and third attempts.
In the second round of the competition, he lifted the barbell over his head, but two of the three judges pressed the red button, meaning failure. There was a comment that his arms were shaking.
Kim Soo-hyun, who would have won a bronze medal if the result was a success, was left in tears after being ruled a ‘disqualification’.
Kim Soo-hyun said, “I will shine in Paris so that anyone can judge it a ‘success’ and I will definitely win a medal.”
Park Joo-hyo, who was diagnosed with a level 5 disability due to spinal surgery two years ago, has confirmed his participation in the Olympics for the first time with his amazing recovery.
He expressed his desire to win an Olympic medal, saying, “I don’t want to miss this hard-earned opportunity.”
Yoo Dong-ju will be competing in his third Olympics.
Yoo Dong-ju, who finished 14th in Rio 2016 and eighth in Tokyo 2021 due to injuries, said, “A man can only do it three times,” and vowed, “I won’t have any regrets in Paris.”
At the South Korean team’s decision ceremony for the Paris Olympics, Jang Yeon-hak promised his wife, “I will definitely bring home a medal.”
The Paris Olympic weightlifting will be held from August 7 to 11, local time, at the Porte de Versailles Expo exhibition center in Paris. 카지노사이트
