SSG Landers of the KBO has chosen Yoenis Elias (35).
SSG announced on Feb. 2, “We have decided to terminate the contract with Keisho Shirakawa, an injury replacement foreign player.”
“We checked the physical condition and performance of existing foreign pitcher Elias through two Futures (second team) league appearances,” SSG explained, “and decided that he is more competitive to strengthen the starting staff in the second half of the season, including the advantage of left-handed pitching and rich starting experience.”
After recovering from his side injury, Elias will start against the visiting NC Dinos on May 3 at Changwon NC Park. It will be his first game since May 12 against the KIA Tigers, 51 days after his last start.
SSG said, “We informed Shirakawa, who is traveling with us on the road to Changwon, of our intention to terminate his contract, and the players plan to present him with a special gift on the 2nd to thank him.”
Elias was announced as the starting pitcher against the Kiwoom Heroes on May 18, but while preparing for the game, he complained of pain in his left side.
He underwent a medical examination and was found to have a left adductor muscle injury.
After Elias was diagnosed with a “six-week diagnosis,” SSG signed him for six weeks for 1.8 million yen (about $15.7 million) from Shirakawa, who was playing for the Tokushima Indigo Sox of the Shikoku Island League in the Japanese Independent League.
This year, the KBO introduced a new system that allows teams to place an existing foreign player on the disabled list if he or she is injured for more than six weeks and requires medical treatment, and to use a substitute foreign player until the player returns.
Shirakawa, who became the KBO’s first short-term substitute foreign player, made his first start on June 1 and went 2-2 with a 5.09 ERA in five games.
Elias was placed on the disabled list on May 21st.
After six weeks on the disabled list, Elias is eligible to take the mound for the first team, but in order to do so, SSG must terminate Shirakawa’s contract.
SSG considered extending Shirakawa’s contract, but decided that Elias’ ‘peak’ was higher. 온라인카지노사이트
