Up to five Wests Tigers players were issued official breach notices in recent days over reported pre-season fitness issues.

The bombshell news dropped on Wednesday morning with Code Sports first reporting at least two players will need to front the club’s board of directors to fight to avoid having their contracts torn up.
Players are said to have agreed to strict fitness guidelines during exit interviews at the conclusion of last season that would hold them accountable ahead of their return to the training track.

Now Smith has come out and voiced his support for the club over their hard line stance as he slammed the players for being “disrespectful”.
“If I’m Benji Marshall, geez I find it disrespectful on the players’ behalf,” Smith said on The Bye Round podcast with James Graham.
“Three wooden spoons in a row, a new coach and you’re going to come back out of condition. It begs the question, do you really want to play this game and what do you want to play for?
“Do you want to play it because it looks cool and you want to make money, or do you want to play it because this means something to you and you want to win championships and you want to do great things in this game.
