Eight companies in Macau have reported problems, including three casino operators, due to a worldwide IT outage linked to Microsoft Windows and traced to cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, city law enforcement police said. The impact on casino business was limited to “internal computing systems,” rather than in-house operations, police said.
The affected gaming company’s public services were “unstalled” and were able to “maintain normality” in its operations, police said. Organisations, including non-gaming businesses, were not identified in the update.
As of Friday evening, global IT turmoil had had a “limited but controllable” impact on Macau, a judicial police statement said. Police cited information gathered by the Cybersecurity Incident Alert and Response Center, a department tasked with monitoring and investigating internet security issues.
The eight companies reporting back-office issues were local cash transfer services, two public services and two insurance companies and three gaming companies, respectively, according to Friday’s statement.
