Former Vietnam national soccer team coach Park Hang Seo will be on hand to cheer on his former players as they take on South Korea in an exhibition match.
“Former coach Park Hang-seo will attend the friendly match between Korea and Vietnam’s invitational soccer team at the Hana Bank World Cup Stadium in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, on Sunday at 8 p.m. as an encourager,” the Korea Football Association said on Saturday.
“This is the first time Park will encourage a foreign national team player he coached in a domestic A match,” the federation added.
Park coached Vietnam’s national team and U-23 team for nearly five years from October 2017 to January this year, leading them to record-breaking performances in various international competitions and earning him the title of Vietnam’s “national hero.
His achievements include Vietnam’s first-ever Asian Games quarterfinal appearance (2018), the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games soccer title (2019), and World Cup final qualification (2022 in Qatar).
In January, Park was recognized as Vietnam’s top foreign sports coach for the year by receiving the Foreign Coach of the Year award at the Victory Cup ceremony.
Under Park’s guidance, Vietnam’s ranking in the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) jumped from 134th in 2016 to 96th last December.
However, Park’s tenure ended on Jan. 31 after he and the Vietnam Football Association failed to agree on a contract extension.
Meanwhile, the South Korean national team, led by Jürgen Klinsmann (GER), will try to make it three straight wins in A matches. 슬롯사이트
