KIA Tigers rookie left-handed pitcher Yoon Young-cheol (19) expressed his thoughts on completing his professional debut season.
Young-Cheol Yoon finished the 2023 season with the game against the Gwangju Samsung Lions on the 8th (6 innings, 4 hits, 5 strikeouts, 1 run). KIA is still competing for 5th place, but decided to give rookie Yoon Young-cheol an early break to take care of his body.
Before the game against Gwangju Kiwoom Heroes on the 11th, Youngcheol Yoon said, “The coach told me to end (the season) first. He said, “It is difficult to achieve even 10 wins, and I originally thought about 120 innings, so I thought this was enough.”
About his first professional season, “It was physically harder than I thought. Since it was my first year, there were a lot of difficulties, and it wasn’t easy to make a full-time starting rotation. “I will work harder on his physical training so that he does not get tired during the season next year,” he said. He wasn’t too concerned about the Rookie of the Year competition. Youngcheol Yoon said, “It would be nice if he received it, but he wouldn’t be disappointed if he didn’t receive it. He said, “I don’t really care because I just have to do well next year.”
His personal records showed disappointment with his earned run average (ERA). Young-Cheol Yoon received a record of 8 wins, 7 losses, and an ERA of 4.04 in 25 games (122.2 innings) this season. He confessed, “Winning is something I can’t do anything about, but I felt like I could achieve an ERA of 3 points, but I’m a little disappointed that I couldn’t.”
Regarding his first season, he gave it a lower score than expected, ‘5 out of 10’. Youngcheol Yoon said, “The current record is a record that can be said to have been thrown well because he was a rookie. It’s not a very good record. It would be bad to leave a record like this next year and the year after. “I will do my best during the off-season to show a better performance,” he pledged.
